In an effort to continue its mission of providing a national model to produce underrepresented scientists and engineers through workforce development. The National Science Foundation has offered STEM students the opportunity to enroll in graduate programs at participating institutions without a financial burden. This program is called Bridge to the Doctorate (B2D) Graduate Fellowship Program, which emphasizes Ph.D. matriculation and completion. RM-AMP institutions awarded the B2D have been very successful in helping bridge BD Fellows into doctoral programs, while also maintaining and expanding workforce development efforts at host institutions.
