Four fellowships are available for Indigenous PHD students who wish to study in Agriculture, Natural Resources, Science, or Engineering
The University of Idaho is working to recruit and bring on a cohort of four new scholars to serve in our STEM colleges for Fall 2024. The focus of the fellowship is to support the student in earning a STEM PhD, work with college deans and department chairs on a higher education leadership experience, and sharing with the college their experiences as a tribal member/scholar. Potential students with a masters degree already earned are certainly encouraged to apply as well as those who are working in industry and would benefit from a PhD. Funding is secure through the entirety of the students PhD program.
Selected students will be mentored by college leadership as well as program faculty in a shared academic and leadership learning experience. The selected students must be closely connect to their tribal community and heritage and willing to assist faculty and academic leadership in:
- Exploring curriculum utilizing Indigenous pedagogy and knowledge
- Promoting relationships with regional and national tribes
- Expand our understanding of our responsibility to Indigenous nations and students through educational program development
Fellows will receive full tuition support as well as 37K per year. Funding will continue through the entirety of the students program.
