The Bioenergy Bridge to Career Program Virtual Workshop is a four-day virtual event for undergraduate students interested in learning about the bioenergy field. It is sponsored by the Bioprocessing Separations Consortium, which is dedicated to identifying and overcoming the challenges associated with turning plant and other organic matter into biofuels and chemicals. This workshop will occur from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. CST on four consecutive Fridays, starting on Friday, July 14, and ending on Friday, August 4.
The objectives of the workshop are:
- To introduce the topic of bioenergy and expose students to leading-edge research on topics such as the benefits of bioenergy, types of biomass feedstock, how bioenergy is produced, and biomass conversion technologies with a specific focus on separation processes.
- To meet and network with Department of Energy National Laboratory scientists and researchers in the field of bioenergy.
- To help STEM-interested students explore potential careers in bioenergy by addressing the academic and professional development skills needed to help them transition to a 4-year institution and beyond.
- To inform students about future educational and research opportunities available to them, and
- To broaden the participation of underrepresented minorities in STEM within the bioenergy community.
The activities during the symposium include:
- Exploring science and engineering problems using the same data that researchers use.
- Short research presentations on various bioenergy topics.
- Networking opportunities with Department of Energy National Laboratory researchers.
- Panel discussions on career paths in bioenergy technology, and
- Internship, academic, and career application strategies.
Eligibility
This event is open to undergraduate students. Students from historically underrepresented groups in STEM are strongly encouraged to attend.
