Natural Resource Stewardship and Science Directorate LHIP Pollinator Hotshot 2022 Intern
Position Description
The Pollinator in National Parks project will inventory pollinator diversity within 40+ parks over the next five years. All inventorying will happen using noninvasive, citizen science field methods. The interns on this project will participate in remote and/or in-person training to prepare staff for summer sampling in their local park(s). The interns will also act as the primary “testers” of pollinator protocols material, providing feedback to the project manager on the effectiveness of sampling techniques conveyed through a protocol document. The interns will facilitate with field sampling collections and database management to generate species lists.
Qualifications
- Because this project includes extensive field sampling, the candidate must be willing to be outside for most of the day, hiking/on one’s feet, and carrying field equipment. The applicant must be willing to work in field teams.
- Experience with setting up campgrounds, and a willingness to camp in a tent is required.
Internship Requirements
- Age 18 to 30, and military veterans up to age 35
- Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident
- All Mosaics in Science interns are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination
- All interns are required to complete their internships at a Career and Leadership workshop in Washington, DC from July 31 – August 4th
Time Frame
- Applications must be sumitted by 11:55 PM your time on Feb. 6, 2022.
- Top candidates will be selected for interviews in February, placement decisions will be made in March.
- Suggested dates of internship: May 16th – August 4th, 2022
Compensation
- Weekly stipend of $600
- Costs of round-trip travel to the park (some restrictions may apply)
- Housing will be provided
Driver’s License
- Applicant must have a valid driver’s license to drive a government vehicle
- Personal vehicle is required for this position
