Community college students enrolled at schools within the Metro Denver STEM Alliance have been provided an opportunity to visit four-year colleges during Transfer Day events while building connections with academic personnel involved in the transfer process. Transfer Day was designed to familiarize students to a new campus, engage students in research opportunities upon transferring to a four-year institution, and provide students with resources available through the Rocky Mountain Alliance for Minority Participation (RM-AMP).

Since August 2019, potential transfer students have visited Colorado State University, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the Colorado School of Mines to tour science labs and meet with faculty members to discuss what it’s like to participate in science and be involved in research. Students also have had opportunities to meet with other underrepresented students who have successfully transferred from a two-year to a four-year institution. In addition, time is allotted for students to meet with advisors from academic transfer services to discuss details of the application process, financial aid, and housing options, and with representatives from diversity offices and on-campus scientific societies who encourage engagement in various student organizations. Personal contact with individuals from academic transfer services, along with an exchange of contact information, provides students a personal connection should they have questions or concerns about transferring.
